Kaiser Haq was born in 1950. He is one of the outstanding poets of the subcontinent. While he was studying English at Dhaka University, the 1971 war broke out and he was entrusted with the command of a unit of Mukti Bahinis (Freedom Fighters) thus taking an active part in the creation of Bangladesh. He has published numerous collections of poetry, essays & translations. He is on the editorial board of the French journal « La Règle du Jeu » along with the likes of Salman Rushdie, Mario Vargas Llosa and Amos Oz. Olivier Litvine, currently heading the Pondicherry Alliance française, translated a selection of Kaiser Haq’s poems when posted in Dhaka. He is looking forward to presenting you with the lively and powerful poetry of Kaiser Haq on the occasion of a bilingual reading.
