A CHOREOGRAPHIC DOCUMENTARY ON A DESTINY OF AFRICA
"Dance or Chaos" is a documentary about a lived history that of Souleymane Sanogo, which
unfolds through a contemporary dance solo performed by the artist whose adventure is thus
told. This creation is part of a series of shows that the Bamako Company BlonBa dedicated to
figures of the artistic life of Mali. The first of these shows revealed the fate of two pioneers of
the Bamako hip hop movement, rappers Lassy King Massassy (The Man with Six Names) and
Ramses Damarifa (Stronger than my father). They were both co-produced by Ivry Antoine-
Vitez'stheater and mixed theater and music. These theatrical and musical autobiographies have
largely toured Mali, France and Senegal. Stronger than my father, selected at the festival
Casamance on stage (Ziguinchor, Senegal) received the first prize. "Dance or chaos" is a new
stage, this time with the intervention of the creative dance, in full excitement throughout
Africa. It is by the expressive force of this art that one enters into the flesh of history, that one
sees the deep springs, that one discovers the meanders and the results.
