Wafa Khoury is a Lebanese artist. She splits her time between Paris and Chandigarh where she will showcase around 30 paintings at Alliance Française.

Her personal technique is essentially diverse and versatile as it combines texture, material, and form. As for her style, it follows no norm nor can it be fitted in a particular box, as it falls somewhere between the realms of the figurative and the abstract.

The heart and soul of the forthcoming art show is no doubt in the art of the traditional Indian garments that offer a silent and quiet resistance to the spread of the western fashion industry. The inspiration for those paintings is carefully gleaned from the delicate poetry that the many country’s traditional attires exude. A simple draping, a print, a scarf in the breeze, a graceful demeanor in an intricately embroidery saree, encapsulated in 35 paintings on paper and canvas, in an infinite array of colour combinations as improbable as they are magnificent.

The artworks offer a poetic vision of otherwise trivial scenes from every day life, transcending the ordinary and sometimes harsh reality, to the stuff of light and colour.

Last chance to meet her and discover her world!
