‘REVISITING CHANDIGARH’
Bodies Landscapes by Ali Salmi
Dance Performances in Chandigarh City
“As a dancer-choreographer, I was absorbed by Chandigarh during my first prospecting tour, in February and March 2018. I crossed the city with fright, dazzle and interrogation. Above all, the city offered me nice meetings with residents, workers, public servants, who, each in their own way, shared with me something of their humanity.
I stepped into this geometric and hierarchical plan that distributes the sectors and, within the latter the blocks, the traffic lanes. There is in the city of Chandigarh, in its center and its alleys, something of a radiant city: a living presence, confusing and therefore inspiring.
Dancing in harmony with this framed and structured chaos, sublime urban space and makes it resonate, as a dedication to this open hand full of promise, of Love to this bird in flight.
As a choreographic surveyor of the public space, I decided to revisit through dance the heart of the city of Chandigarh in the architecture of Le Corbusier, Edwin Maxwell Fry, Jane Berverly Drew, and Pierre Jeanneret.
It aims to create a meeting between street dance/art and what has become of this living presence of Le Corbusier architecture in the city.”
Discover the amazing and unique work of Ali Salmi, on the 23rd of February for three performances: at 10am, 1pm and 5.30pm.
The performances will take place in Sector-17, plaza in collaboration with Chandigarh Urban Festival.
