iṣ (pronounced “icchh”) 29 May | 7:00 PM | Alliance Française de Chandigarh
iṣ is a forty-minute contemporary dance performance that explores the shifting landscape of human desire—how it arises, multiplies, and entangles us. Conceptualised and performed by Puneet Jewandah and Ajay Parche, the piece emerges from personal reflection and philosophical inquiry, questioning which desires are truly our own and which are shaped by society.
Blending contemporary and hip-hop movement vocabularies, the performance unfolds from beneath a pile of clothes—symbolising inherited and material desires—and moves through states of ecstasy, imitation, conflict, and surrender. Through this physical and emotional journey, the dancers reveal the cyclical and often overwhelming nature of desire, from the instinctive to the socially conditioned.
Drawing on a rich soundscape ranging from John Cage to Nils Frahm, and inspired by the ideas of J. Krishnamurti, iṣ invites audiences to reflect on their relationship with desire—how it defines us, confines us, and possibly frees us.

Puneet Jewandah Performance Artist | Choreographer Chandigarh, India
Puneet Jewandah is a Chandigarh-based performance artist and choreographer whose practice spans contemporary performance, embodied research, and interdisciplinary work. Her artistic approach explores the relationship between the body, environment, and attention, using movement to investigate presence, change, and lived experience.
She creates durational performances, dance films, and site-responsive works that integrate movement, text, sound, objects, and natural elements. Her work reflects on how the body exists within physical, emotional, and ecological environments, often focusing on subtle shifts, repetition, and stillness rather than fixed narratives.
Rooted in physical research and observation, her process evolves through improvisation and interaction with space, allowing each performance to be shaped by its environment and experienced as a shared moment of awareness.
Ajay Parche is a dance artist and performer with nearly a decade of experience, rooted in street dance and driven by exploration and experimentation. His movement is deeply musical, approaching dance as a physical expression of sound and its finer details. He draws inspiration from everyday life, believing rhythm exists in everything — even in silence. His work continues to evolve through freedom, instinct, and a constant search for new expression.
